Axles

The axles in a car play a crucial role in transmitting power from the engine to the wheels, allowing the vehicle to move forward or backward. Axles are mechanical shafts that connect the wheels on each side of the vehicle to the differential or final drive assembly. In most cars, there are two types of axles: the drive axle & the non-drive axle. The drive axle, also known as the half shaft, is responsible for transferring power from the differential to the drive wheels. It consists of an inner & outer CV (constant velocity) joint, which allows for flexibility & smooth power transfer even during steering & suspension movements. On the other hand, the non-drive axle, also known as the stub axle or axle shaft, connects the wheels to the vehicle's suspension system & supports the weight of the vehicle. Axles are typically made of strong & durable materials such as steel or alloy, capable of withstanding the torque & forces generated by the engine. Regular inspection & maintenance of the axles, including checking for any signs of wear, damage, or leaks, are essential to ensure their proper functioning. In the case of damaged or worn axles, timely replacement is necessary to maintain vehicle performance & safety. Axles are critical components that contribute to the overall stability, control, & propulsion of a car, making them vital for safe & efficient operation.
