Collection: Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company was founded by Frank Seiberling who borrowed $3,500 USD from his brother-in-law Lucius Miles for the down payment needed to buy an abandoned strawboard factory on the banks of the Little Cuyahoga River in Akron, Ohio. The remainder would be paid in 4 yearly installments of $2,500 USD. Goodyear was named in honor of Charles Goodyear, who discovered the rubber vulcanization process in 1839. Production of carriage tires, bicycle tires, horseshoe pads & rubber sundries began in November 1898. The company's 1st sale for $25.80 USD in rubber tubes for pharmaceutical bottles was recorded in December 1898. Automobile tires were added to Goodyear's product line in 1899.
