Differentials

The differential is a vital component of a car's drivetrain system, specifically in vehicles with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configurations. It is located between the drive wheels & is responsible for distributing power from the engine to the wheels while allowing them to rotate at different speeds. The differential consists of a set of gears that transfer torque from the driveshaft to the wheels. Its primary function is to enable smooth & controlled turning by allowing the wheels to rotate at different speeds during cornering. As the car turns, the outer wheel travels a longer distance than the inner wheel, & the differential compensates for this by allowing the wheels to rotate at different speeds. In addition to facilitating turning, the differential also plays a crucial role in power distribution. In a rear-wheel drive car, the differential splits the power evenly between the two rear wheels, while in an all-wheel drive car, it distributes power to both the front & rear wheels according to traction conditions. Regular maintenance, including changing the differential fluid, is essential to ensure its proper operation & longevity. Upgraded differentials, such as limited-slip differentials or locking differentials, are available for enhanced traction & performance in specific driving conditions.
