The harmonic balancer is typically attached to the front end of the crankshaft & consists of an outer ring, an inner hub, & a rubber or elastomer material in between. The harmonic balancer helps to prevent excessive wear & damage to the engine components, such as the crankshaft, timing belt or chain, & accessory drive system.
