They can be either air-to-air or air-to-water intercooled to cool the compressed air before it enters the engine, improving its density. Turbocharged engines may experience some turbo lag, which is the delay in power delivery caused by the time it takes for the exhaust gases to spool up the turbine. However, modern turbocharging technology has greatly reduced turbo lag, making it less noticeable in many applications.
