Complete, Reversible Flex-Fuel Integration for the Gen 6 Camaro
The SMG Flex Fuel Kit gives the 2016–2024 Chevrolet Camaro SS and SS 1LE, and the 2019–2024 Camaro LT1, the hardware required to measure ethanol content for a properly calibrated flex-fuel tune. First launched in January 2017, the SMG design has nearly a decade of real-world history on the Camaro platform.
This is not a collection of generic adapters. Every part of the kit is selected or engineered for secure fuel connections, OEM-quality electrical integration, quick installation and clean removal if the vehicle is returned to stock.
Why the SMG Kit Is Different
- Genuine GM ethanol-content sensor: An authentic GM sensor supplies the ethanol-content signal required by the ECM calibration.
- SMG vehicle-specific harness: The continuously braided, weather-resistant harness uses OEM-style connectors and is designed specifically for the Gen 6 Camaro.
- Weather Pack disconnect at the PCM: The harness disconnects near the PCM for easier installation and complete removal. The car can be returned to stock without cutting, splicing or leaving modified factory wiring behind.
- Vehicle-specific direct-fitting design: This Camaro SS/LT1 kit connects directly without adding an unnecessary fuel-hose assembly, keeping the installation compact and reducing the number of connections.
- Proprietary full-swivel cam-lock connections: The connections rotate for clean, stress-free alignment while retaining a secure positive lock.
- Double O-ring sealing: Two seals at the proprietary connections provide an additional sealing interface.
- Positive mechanical retention: SMG's factory-style locking design does not depend on an exposed spring clip as the primary retention method, reducing the risk of unintended fuel-line separation.
- Tool-free fuel and electrical connections: No wrenches or specialty disconnect tools are required for the kit connections. Basic hand tools may be useful for vehicle access and routing.
- Fully reversible: No fuel-line cutting, wiring splices or permanent vehicle modifications are required.

Not intended for Camaro ZL1/LT4 applications. Use the dedicated SMG Camaro ZL1 flex-fuel kit for those vehicles.
Tuning Is Required Before Using E85
The kit allows the vehicle to measure ethanol content; it does not activate flex-fuel operation by itself. A compatible ECM calibration from a qualified tuner is required before using E85 or any fuel containing more ethanol than the vehicle permits in stock form.
Have the tuner confirm that the ECM reports the correct ethanol content before adding an ethanol blend. Available fuel-system capacity must also be verified under load. Engines with forced induction or other power modifications may require additional low-side or high-side fuel-system upgrades, injectors or a tuner-defined maximum ethanol content.
SMG does not provide tuning advice. Work with a professional tuner familiar with Gen V LT1 engine management and ethanol-content sensor configuration. Power gains vary with ethanol content, engine combination, supporting modifications and calibration.
Installation and Return to Stock
The vehicle-specific direct fitting and wiring connect without cutting the original fuel line or splicing the factory harness. The full-swivel connection simplifies fitting alignment, while the Weather Pack connection at the PCM allows the SMG harness to be disconnected and removed cleanly if the car is sold or returned to stock.
An experienced technician can commonly complete installation in approximately 30 minutes, although vehicle condition and installer experience can affect installation time. Anyone unfamiliar with pressurized automotive fuel systems or PCM connections should use a qualified professional installer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the kit use a genuine GM flex-fuel sensor?
Yes. The kit includes a genuine GM ethanol-content sensor, not a generic substitute.
Does this Camaro kit include a fuel-hose assembly?
No. The Camaro SS/LT1 application uses a compact vehicle-specific direct fitting rather than a hose assembly. SMG kits that require hose use ethanol-compatible PTFE hose and machine-crimped ends, but those components are application-dependent and are not part of this kit.
What retains and seals the fuel connections?
SMG uses proprietary full-swivel cam-lock connections with positive mechanical retention and double O-ring sealing. The design does not rely on an exposed spring clip as the primary retention method.
Why is there a disconnect at the PCM?
The Weather Pack disconnect makes the final PCM connection easier to install and allows the complete harness to be removed cleanly when returning the vehicle to stock.
Can I run E85 immediately after installation?
No. The ECM must first receive a proper flex-fuel calibration, and the tuner must verify the ethanol-content signal. Fuel-system capacity must be checked for the vehicle's modifications and intended ethanol content.
Can I switch between gasoline and E85?
With a correctly configured flex-fuel calibration, the ECM can use the sensor reading to adjust for gasoline, ethanol blends and E85. Calibration strategy and permitted ethanol range are determined by the tuner and available fuel-system capacity.
Warranty
Professional installation is required for warranty validation. When installed by a verifiable commercial installer, SMG may provide lifetime coverage on SMG-manufactured components to the original purchaser at its discretion. Proof of professional installation is required, and components must be returned to SMG for testing before warranty authorization.
